Building Dynamics is a new focus area of research situated at SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering, exploring scenarios and implications of architectural movement.
Digitisation of the design, construction and operation of the built environment, and advances in materials and building technology, provide new challenges and opportunities for kinetic systems to change existing and new buildings.
Flexibility and movement of building parts that are traditionally understood as static promote modes of operation in which a building may adapt to changes in its external and internal environments, to optimise its layout, and to assist occupants in their routines.
Through a design driven research practice, with an emphasis on physical prototyping, this research area aims to align itself with SDU’s strategy for adopting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
